Partial Building Collapse in Mt. Vernon Triangle Historic District A little history on the buildings: John McDermott, an established carriage builder in the city and speculator in city real estate anticipated the potential for business in the area afforded by the new market. Between 1883 and 1885, McDermott, whose carriage manufactory was located at 310 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, built three large flour and feed stores in adjoining and substantial, three-story brick buildings.
