Partners take steps to address TB, says department By Nellie Setepano, Oct 10,2014. Post Courier Immediate action is needed to address the emerge of drug resistant TB and urgently address challenges in TB control program which give rise to drug resistant TB. THE national TB program and partners have taken steps to address the eminent threat by TB, according to the Health Department. It says 30 health facilities in 14 provinces were identified as contributing to 53 percent of the country’s case load. The same 30 health facilities contribute to poor diagnosis through sputum not done or not available and poor treatment, of loss to follow up. The TB emergency meeting held in the nation’s capital on Monday heard that strengthening the implementation of TB care and prevention through improving quality diagnosis with early detection and quality treatment with patient centered treatment and care is important. This had to be done through local ownership and support, promoting quality and accountability. Another plan is to enhance partnership at all levels to maximise and optimise efforts using available resources. Advocacy is essential to promote local ownership and generate local support and partnership for TB control Immediate action is needed to address the emerge of drug resistant TB and urgently address challenges in TB control program which give rise to drug resistant TB. An emergency task force is set up to address TB and drug resistant TB in NCD, Gulf, and Western Provinces.
