Party General Secretary chairs meeting on anti-corruption Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted the 5th meeting of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Fighting (CSCCPF) in Hanoi on July 9 to review the committees performance in the first six months of this year and implement tasks for the remaining six months. At the meeting, CSCCPF Permanent Vice Chairman, Nguyen Ba Thanh reviewed the investigation and trial of major corruption cases, particularly the 12 serious and complicated cases which are being dealt with under the direct instruction of the steering committee. He also proposed several more cases that need the steering committee’s attention and instruction to resolve. Speaking at the meeing, Party General Secretary Trong, who is also Chairman of CSCCPF, said corruption prevention and eradication is a very important task connected to the sustainable development of the country and the regime. The Party leader praised the committee’s performance in first six months of 2014, saying that it has performed its role and validated its position through specific and practical activities. However, he also pointed out that besides positive progress, anti-corruption work has also faced shortcomings that needed to be improved in the future. General Secretary Trong also stressed the importance of the establishment of four committee teams to oversee the investigation into corruption, as well as the need to improve capacities and co-ordination among agencies responsible for corruption prevention.
