Parvez in list of probables for World Cup ‘My selection will inspire young cricketers in Valley’ Srinagar: After bagging ‘Lala Amarnath Award for the best all-rounder’ in the Ranji Trophy for 2013-14 season, Parvez Rasool has become the first cricketer from Kashmir to figure in the list of 30 probables for next year’s World Cup. Talking to Rising Kashmir, Parvez said his selection would be an inspiration for young cricketers of Kashmir to opt for the game as their career. “It is only by the grace of God that I have managed to find my place in the squad. I have worked hard for this. I hope my selection will be a driving force for youngsters in valley to choose the game as a career option,” he said. Parvez becomes the first cricketer from Kashmir to be selected in the list of probables for the mega event to be held in Australia next year. “My performance in domestic cricket has been satisfactory for last couple of years. I have constantly performed well for my team that has eventually paid off,” he said. Parvez said he would work hard to book his place in the 15-member squad for the World Cup. To make his case strong for selection in the final Indian squad, he is looking for a good performance in his next assignment of Ranji Trophy where J&K team will compete with strong teams. J&K’s successful run in the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy was cut short in the quarter-final stage when they lost to Punjab, but their performances in Group C earned them a promotion into the competition’s elite Group A. “Right now my focus is on the Ranji trophy matches. I know I can make it to the last list of 15-member squad in the world cup if I continue to perform well in the domestic arena,” said Parvez. He was also a part of India A team for an Australia tour three months back and has also played in South Africa last year. “I have an experience of playing on bouncing wickets. I had good exposure playing for ‘India A’ team while touring to Australia and South Africa,” said Parvez. He said his domestic coach Abdul Qayoom Bagaw and national coach Bishen Singh Bedi played a vital role in nurturing his talent. “I am thankful to them. They have worked hard on me. It is only their belief in me that has kept me going to give my best in the middle,” said Parvez. Meanwhile, social networking is abuzz about his selection in the preliminaries for World Cup squad. Parvez was also the first cricketer from the state to get an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract when he signed up for Pune Warriors. He turned up for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the seventh edition of the IPL. Parvez said his biggest motivation has been the sports background of his family. “I have grown up in sports family. Since my childhood I have been engaged in different sports. I have been playing cricketer since a very long time,” he said. Parvez, who is the captain of J&K team, made his international debut against Bangladesh at Mirpur last year after his decent run in the domestic circuit. The wily off- spinner took two wickets and conceded 60 runs in his quota of 10 overs. Owing to his performance, he was awarded best all-rounder in domestic limited-overs tournaments. “We manage to beat teams like Delhi where big stalwarts like Gautam Ghambir, Virendra Sehwag were playing. It was the first time that our team (J&K) has reached in the last phases of the tournaments,” he said. Parvez (26) hails from Bijbehara town. He hogged the limelight after his stunning performance against the visiting Australian side in February 2012 while playing in the squad of Board President’s XI in a side match.
