Parvo is always such a depressing thing to deal with because its so preventable. There is nothing like watching a tiny little helpless creature, so lacking in energy that he hardly moves out of his own vomit. These four little angels came to us yesterday when they found themselves returned to a full shelter with a highly contagious virus....not good. Although their lives are are not guaranteed with treatment, their deaths were-- without. Seemed like an easy decision to me. We assessed each one and found that two, for now, are totally non symptomatic (golden and black and tan cocker looking one). The terrier looking fella has no fever yet but lacked in appetite and was quieter then the others. The chocolate pup had actually been receiving treatment from the last rescue that had him in their care and is by far in the worst state. I will keep you updated as they progress. The little chocolate is pretty much unchanged overnight. Terrier dude was started on meds for nausea and fluids under the skin to help perk him up. If he continues to decline, we will put an IV catheter in him as well. At this point all we can do is medically support them and hope their little immune systems are up for a good fight. -Laura
