Basi gusto nyo man...:) JESUS SURELY COMES When your crush says he will visit you in your home, what do you do? Of course, you have to prepare yourself. Maligo kag mapahumot, and all. Whenever we are expecting a visitor to come, we prepare. Preparation is important especially when we are expecting someone or an event to come. Likewise, if we want our Christmas meaningful and enjoyable, we have to prepare. That’s why we, Christians who are believing that Christmas is not just an ordinary event but the birth of our Savior, our Lord Jesus, have this season before Christmas, the so-called ADVENT. Advent means “coming.” It is the coming of the promised Messiah. And we believe that He will come. Thus, we need to prepare for the blessed time of his coming. And so, for us Christians, Advent is very significant for Christmas. We cannot celebrate Christmas meaningfully without experiencing the season of Advent. An advent is a never-ending season of life and life is a never-ending Advent. We have to prepare always for the coming of Jesus. But if you’ll wait for the coming of Jesus that will never be a cause for despair because Jesus surely comes. He is with us. He is Immanuel! So, it is the type of waiting that pays off our preparation. Why we don’t invest time and effort to prepare for the coming of Jesus? During our trying and difficult times, when we have problems, do Jesus come? For the victims of calamities and disasters, how will Jesus come? Kon mag-abot gid man si Jesus sa ti-on sang aton kabudlayan kag kasakit, in the darkest moments in our lives, paano siya mag-abot? Jesus comes as light through His word. Jesus will come even without our preparation but it needs our response. When he comes, will we be there to meet Jesus? Do we listen to His words? Can we be the light to others through our words? Before we answer those questions, let me share with you this simple thought on hearing vs. listening; nabati-an vs. napamati-an. Mahimo nga nabati-an naton pero wala naton ginpamati-an, meaning pagkabati naton lapos lang sa pihak nga dulunggan. That’s hearing. Listening is you apply what you’ve heard from. And listening does not come naturally kay gina-digest pa na naton sa aton huna-huna kag gina-sapuso kag ginpaguha sa pangabuhi. Kon kaisa ang aton nabati-an ulihi na naton napamati-an. May ara kami da upod nga after three days sang amon sharing sang jokes amo pa lang sya mag-otoy otoy kadlaw. Abi namon nagbuang sya, igo namon pamangkoton ang joke gle nga nabati-an nya 3 days ago amo ato ang iya ginakadlawan. Siya lang isa gulpi lang gakadlaw kay after 3 days pa niya napamati-an ang joke nga iya nabati-an. So, listening does not come naturally. You know there are three reasons why we fail to listen: 1. We want to be listened to attitude. Gusto naton kita lang permi pamati-an. 2. Spiritual laziness – I already know that attitude. “Ah bal-an ko na nah.” This attitude can be a form of pride. Tood gid bala nga bal-an n’yo? We have to admit that there’s a lot to learn. Mayo gid father ah.” Daw gusto pa ko mag-apologize kay bal-an n’ya akon homily dason nagsimba pa s’ya. Sorry ha, for wasting your time. 3. Selective listening. Kon naigo kita sa ginahambal or indi naton nanami-an, or indi pabor sa aton or bias kita sa speaker, wala kita gapamati. Pero kon okay para sa aton. Kapin pa kon ginadayaw kita. Abaw kanami sa aton mamati. Selective listening. But the Word of God, even we don’t want to listen to it, the word of God will surely come. Whether we like it or not, the word of God is true. And His word has made flesh, nangin tawo, and He is Jesus. He is the word of Love. Basta word of love, sigurado gid ina, matood kag masaligan. It is dependable because it is the word of love. May mga words nga indi masaligan because indi man word of love. Kag ano ini ang “word of love” nga ginhambal ni Jesus? These are “I will die for you” - The most reliable word of love. It gives life and meaning to this life. Because of those words, even our struggles, hurts and trials had a meaning. On this holiday season, let us utter words that are reliable – the words of love. In that way, we become light to others. Let us inspire them through our words and giving those words flesh through our actions. Kasubong sang kanta, “Ang nagsindi nitong ilaw Walang iba kundi ikaw Salamat sa liwanag mo Muling magkakakulay ang pasko Salamat sa liwanag mo Muling magkakakulay ang pasko.” Let’s be light to them. Let our presence give color and meaning to the lives of others. May others say to us, “salamat sa liwanag mo, muling nagkakakulay ang aking pasko.”
