Passive Aggressive rant for the month (hey, its actually been several months since my last one). Calling someone narrow-minded or close-minded without understanding or asking how someone came to their decisions is well . . . a bit close-minded and narrow-minded. I dont go out and about on various Facebook groups foisting my opinions on others. I post here, I post on my business page, and I am an admin in the Fearful Dogs group, so I post there. If folks dont agree with me, thats fine, but I find it really distastefully rude to come to my section of the world where I am very clear about my approach and guidelines and insult me. My decisions about how I train dogs and the ethical guidelines I work within are founded upon thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of education from minds a lot more experienced and smarter than I. My ethical guidelines follow the same guidelines required by people who practice behavior analysis on humans. I also took a very methodical approach and thoughtfullness before committing to the guidelines of LIMA (least invasive, minimally aversive) and the humane hierarchy. If folks have trouble with that, go take it up with the leaders in the applied behavior analysis world. You are certainly not going to change my mind with ad hominem and other logical fallicies. I have also been accused of close-mindedness and narrow-mindedness when I inform trainers who reach out to me for mutual referrals that I dont refer to people who use prong, choke and shock collars. I could totally get it if I was roaming to different groups forcing my approach on people who didnt ask for my opinion. But I dont. These are always people who come to me, and then turn to insults when they dont like what I say or what I stand for. Its like walking into my house, sitting on my couch, and then peeing on it because you dont like the fabric. To all those people, this parrot friend sums up what I think:
