Past life/Archtype image 1: He lay loosely on the ground, acutely aware of the softness of his flesh against the firm field. In the distance, the darkness of the Bavarian forest beckoned his attention. A diversion from the pain, as blood gushed from the gaping wound just below his sternum. He knew his innards must be spilling out and tried to concentrate on the black spaces between the trees. He could almost smell the earth there. Not the smell of gunpowder and death. From the periphery, he could sense the bodies of others fallen, strewn about the field. It was almost too much to bear, but the forest comforted him. Reminded him that all things sink back into the earth, only to rise again. He knew then that his body would decompose on that very spot, his soul forever bound to that land.
