Pastor Dettwiler! Devotion #617 Thursday, 10-23-2014 Psalm 84:10-12 10For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. 12O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You. For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand...what? Am I permitted to add a couple words? Maybe the idea is: Better than a thousand...anywhere else!? The Psalmist (Sons of Korah) goes on to say it would be better to occupy a lowly place in the court of the Lord than to dwell in tents of wickedness. Now that makes perfect sense. One day with the Lord, to contrast with a thousand in opposition to the Lord. (That is the definition of wickedness) My apology to those doorkeepers (or greeters), along with a thank you. I am thinking of a proverb of my own: It is better to work for the Lord in the shadows than to be a target in the public eye! Are we spending time in the courts of the Lord? Where are those places? They are wherever God is! We are there, unless we have strayed from God. You know the old saying, If we are separated from God, it is not God who has moved! Verse eleven is a tremendous promise! To expound upon it would more than fill several pages. It is capped with this amazing thought, No good thing will He withhold! Maybe I should focus on that for the rest of this page. The basic thought is one which is familiar to all of Gods people. If we have any desire to know the best God has for us, we will soon be made aware that God will not give us everything we ask for! We have discussed before that Jesus said something that some people have miss-used. Jesus has given us the promise that if we ask anything in His name we will receive it. But it is up to us to interpret what it means to ask in His name. He will not give us what will be a detriment to us. No good thing will He withhold. To ask in His name must be in His spirit: Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will. Cap the whole thing off with verse twelve: Blessed is the man who trusts in You. Is there any danger in trusting in God? No, the danger is in not trusting Him!
