And this number doesnt even include sealed settlements, court costs, and attorney fees. Despite well-documented efforts by law enforcement, police unions pundits and elected officials to twist the recent tragic killing of two NYPD officers into an opportunity to silence our cries for justice and a higher standard of policing, the movement and protests will continue throughout the holiday season. Now we need to continue raising our voices to fight back against a derisive narrative and make clear that movement for Black lives and fair and humane policing continues. National leaders are paying more attention to racial profiling, police brutality and violence in our communities than they have in years and we have a critical opportunity to move forward long-lasting change.
