Pastor Mickey Schneider has been a long time inspiration to me. He wrote this about his recent hospitalization and open-heart surgery: God is working all things together for our good (startling new revelation?). The Scripture that kept coming to mind was “the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” This is the worst thing that has happened to me physically, and yet it has been a very good thing for Judy and me. Baptist Hospital has passages of Scripture on every wall, even in the parking garage. In my room: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (left out “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”) As I was being wheeled into shock treatment: “At what time I am afraid, I will trust in the Lord.” The Psalms were my meditation day and night. Memorize whole Psalms, brothers. Almost everybody that waited on me was a committed Christian, from every conceivable background. One of the older black women, Miss Barbara, was from a church called “Making Jesus Real in Pearl.” I didn’t hear her come into the dark room one night, as I was drawing near to the end of Psalm 2 quietly out loud. I stopped when I heard her come in, and she said, “Don’t stop! Don’t stop!” “Kiss the Son lest He be angry, and you perish in the way. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” “Amen! Amen!” from Miss Barbara.
