Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Monday December 8, 2014 Jude 3, Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Jude, in this epistle to all believers, is concerned about false teachers. A false teacher is anyone who, at any time, teaches any doctrine that is contrary to the bible. When Jude tells us to contend earnestly for the faith, he wants us to exert intense effort on behalf of the purity of the gospel. Every teacher behind any pulpit needs to be kept accountable to the word of God. At our church, we encourage everyone to bring their bible with them and follow along with what is being taught. If they do not own one or forgot theirs, we will give them one to use. Without the purity of Gods word, we have nothing to offer anyone. Sometimes it is even necessary to warn the church of those who have a prominent platform to speak their beliefs, but are saying things that do not line up with the scriptures. Just as dangerous as those who teach falsely are those who add to, or alter, Gods word. This is why Jude tells us that our faith (the gospel) was once for all delivered to the saints. This tells us that throughout the church age, there will never be any new revelation that will contradict the bible. The holy scriptures were given to the church one time for everyone. The Apostle Paul warns us that even if an angel from heaven preaches any other gospel, do not receive it (Galatians 1:8). If anyone approaches you claiming to be an apostle, a prophet, or just someone who has received divine revelation, and what they say does not line up with scripture, do not receive what they have to say. I once heard a wise pastor say concerning biblical doctrine; if its true, its not new; if its new, its not true. Deuteronomy 29:29, “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
