Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Monday October 13, 2014 2 Thessalonians 1:11–12, Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. How many times has a Christian brother or sister asked you to keep them in your prayers? If you said that you would, and if you were faithful to remember your promise to do so, how did you pray for them? It is in todays verses that we have an effective pattern for prayer. The Apostle Paul was fondly affectionate toward the churches that he had helped establish (1 Thess. 2:7&11), and desired to see them push past obstacles and achieve victory in the Lord. An important part of this church being able to do so was the prayers offered by others. The first thing that Paul prays for is that this church would fulfill the will of God in its ministry. God has reason and purpose for every church that He births, but we can so easily get caught up in copying a more established church rather than fulfilling Gods will for our church. God has a unique plan for every church; when that church realizes what it is, and moves in that direction, it will flourish. Next, Paul prayed that this church would fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness. As God created us for His pleasure, He also uses us for His good pleasure. The church that brings pleasure to the heart of God is obedient and faithful in their call. Paul also prayed for the work of faith with power. It is when the faith of man works hand in hand with the power of God, that there is no more powerful force on earth. It is faith and power working together that saves souls, that brings believers to maturity, that overcomes opposition. Lastly, he prays for Gods provision according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Everything in the Christian life starts by grace, continues in grace, and finishes with grace. God has given us the gift of ministry and the privilege of prayer. As long as we immerse ourselves in these things, God will do great things. Isaiah 25:9, And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the LORD; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”
