Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Saturday May 10, 2014 John 6:40, And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” I am sure that you have heard of the old saying, Seeing is believing. But since the Lord is not in our sight today, how are we to see and believe? The way that the Lord is seen today is through the gospel, and by faith. Anything that we are being asked to believe in demands an element of faith. So when we are presented with a concept that we are asked to believe in, we go through a progression in our minds. First, is what I am being asked to believe in reasonable? Is it reasonable that God would become incarnate, die for our sins, and be raised from the dead? A lot of people who believe it to be unreasonable will play a lottery thinking that they will win, even though the odds of that happening are 40 million to 1. Next, every belief, philosophy, or world view demands, at some point, a leap of faith. This is a leap over the gulf of the unknown. In some cases, this is a short leap (a belief that the world is round); in other cases belief would require a longer leap (existence of life on other planets). So when presenting a concept for someone to believe in, we also need to present all the supporting evidence to shorten that leap of faith. If what you have chosen to believe in is unreasonable, untrue, or too great a gulf, you will continually have to maintain the integrity of your belief by patching the holes. Lastly, your belief should be rewarded by the assuredness of its truth. It is through our belief in Jesus Christ that we have received the greatest of gifts, the salvation of our souls. The evidence is contained in a book that spans six-thousand years, is historically accurate, and has changed the lives of many. Read your bible today and decide for yourself. Isaiah 45:21, Tell and bring forth your case; Yes, let them take counsel together. Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is none besides Me.
