Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Tuesday December 9, 2014 Revelation 1:3, Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. In my High School Spanish class we had homework every night. There were a series of questions to answer; asked in Spanish, to be answered in Spanish. Now in this particular curriculum they had it set up so that you could turn to the back of the book and see the answers. Their intent was that we would study the content, gain the best understanding we could, then turn to the back of the book and see if our understanding was correct. It’s the same with the Bible. We are to study the content, gain understanding, but when confusion arises God gives us the final answers in the back of the book. The author of the Book of Revelation is the Apostle John who wrote four books of the bible: The Gospel of John, Three epistles, and the Book of Revelation. If his gospel was written so that we might believe, and his epistles so that we might be sure, then the Book of Revelation was written so that we might be ready. But make no mistake about it, we are not being instructed on what our future holds but who holds our future. The revelation part of the Book of Revelation is to be centered upon Jesus Christ. In todays verse we have a promise with three conditions. The promise is a blessed life or contentment in the midst of all that goes on in the world. First, if you want contentment in your life, read the words of this prophecy. As you read the words of this prophecy you will start to see some of the signs spoken of here are already a reality in our society today. Some have used these things to perpetuate their sky is falling ministries. But be blessed because what you should see is the Lord is coming and find peace from that reality. Secondly we are to hear the words of this prophecy. To hear these words is to have the desire to hear with understanding. There are over two hundred and twenty eight references to the Old Testament in this book so the understanding to what is being said can be found in the scriptures. To keep these things is to hold them as truth. How near are these times? Elements of the things spoken of here are already upon us but whether we have only one more moment or many years left how are you living your life for Christ right now? If you are living your days as if each day is the last while reading Gods word, understanding Gods word, and living Gods word you will do well. Proverbs 8:34, Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors.
