Pastor Rauls Devotional FRIDAY 2 January 2015 Friends in Faith Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 1 Samuel 18:1 Notice, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David. They became the best of friends, because Jonathan saw the integrity of David. He saw his great love for the Lord. When the two met, Jonathan was probably a few years older than David, and he had the same adventurous spirit as David. Remember, David had taken on Goliath and Jonathan had come against the Philistines with nothing more than his armorbearer and his faith in the Lord. There it is, the strength of their bond—their real faith in the Lord. They did not just say the words, but they lived their faith. Think about the bond David and Jonathan had and compare it to your own life and the friends you have. What binds you together? Are you brothers and sisters in the faith, with great love for the Lord? These are important questions, because your answers will reveal your priorities in picking friends. There are those friends you make for life and your heart is knit with theirs because you have the same vision and the same love for the Lord. You have each other’s backs. You do not want to see them fall; they do not want to see you fall. Like David and Jonathan, you have a bond and it cannot be broken by the enemy or the things of this world, because it is founded on your faith in Jesus Christ—your love for Him. Better it is to go to heaven alone, than with a multitude to hell, and be damned for the sake of company. ~Elnathan Parr~
