Pastors Log 32514 FROM: Pastor Lyde TO: Members of Baptist Temple and citizens about Homewood, Hill District, Perry South, Lincoln-Larimer, Hazelwood and that matter every neighborhood in Pittsburgh RE: CONCERNING THIS PITTSBURGH LAND BANK LEGISLATION: This bill needs to be killed. I dont see any other way around. In an abstract sense, this could work but in real time it wont! Why? In a word, TAPE! 1) RED TAPE: It creates MORE and UNNECESSARY bureacracy; given that that the city already has establisments (albeit underperforming) in place to address the issues the Land Bank supposedly will. In short, fix the institutions that have been in place to address the issues, these former establishements had accountability to The Community built in to the structure, unlike this Land Bank Legislation. The i 2) DUCT TAPE: This bill requires far too many amendments (like one person said tonight, Lets stop trying to put lipstick on a pig). This is like using duct tape to support a structurally un-sound edifice. 4) MASKING TAPE: Lets deal with the real elephant in room: This bill disproportionally affects poor communities and struggling class people, so instead what needs to be done as first priority is the thing that that has been overlooked; Strategic, considerable, targeted investment for the effective ameliaration of these know poor and blighted communities. Take off masking tape and deal with the issue 5) SCOTCH TAPE: I can see right through this! Last but not least, this would be arbitrary but legal land-transfer/gentrification hidden in plain sight. To say nothing of how if the Land Bank carries out what it is authorized to do, it will ultimately undermine fundamental confidence as it relates to the fiduciary aspects of community development, homeownership, business development. This means, everyone residents of Pittsburgh ought to care. Personally, Im not with this whole apparent planned-EXILE thing: I dont want to see poor people, struggling class people and people of color become displaced residents in Homewood, the Hill District, Larimer, Hazelwood, Perry, etc. I dont want the future when the aformentioned people are only able to be consumers in an area they used to live in and occupy. So I say #KlllBill PS: To Mayor Bill Peduto Bill Peduto, I really hope you change your apparent position on this Land Bank Legislation. Furthermore, I hope these recent bus rides for you and your donors/friends/supports through Homewood are not really tour buses for opporutnisitc developers who are looking to capitalize on a re-population of Homewood #NoMoreOneNightStandPolitics
