Pastors Moment: Today let me take you through a story you have heard so many times - David and Goliath. I have taken time to re-read the passage for the detail and I have something to share with you. First Israel including Saul were terrified, when David arrives at the scene he does not see Goliath, he sees a Man defying The Armies of the Lord, (Kindly note not the army of Saul). Very crucial lesson of battle and hustle, when God is in his right place, Goliath shrinks down to the proper size. When Goliath replaces God, then you’ll run away in terror every time. The first question i pose to you is, in your circumstances right now, How big is your God? Are you seeing your problem as a Goliath and getting terrified or are you seeing it as an obstacle that needs just a single stone? How big is your God? There is that old mantra - do not tell God how big your giants are, tell your giants how big your God is. Two, Every giant in your path is also in God’s path; if you are going in God’s direction. let me explain that - If you are in the will of God, the giants who fight you are actually fighting God. When Saul is informed that David, the small boy is the one offering to fight the Giant Goliath he laughs him off, “You are only a boy, and he has been a fighting man from his youth.” David’s answer should always be your answer : “Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” The fight is about to start and Goliath tells David, “Come on over here and I’ll feed you to the birds and the beasts.” The David responds in verses 45-47. This is one of the great statements of faith in all the Bible. You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” Now one small detail David promises to cut off the head of Goliath but he only had a sling and a stone. That to me is the most profound message of the David vs Goliath battle, after hitting him him to death, David uses Goliaths own sword to cut his head off. If you place God in the right position and run with his purpose your problems will not only be defeated but they will be used to announce your triumph and tell the story of your success. The story of David and Goliath does not end there after that the whole of Israel invades philistine in one of the most successful Military invasions in History. Just one final point please note Goliath was born in Gath..1 Samuel 17: 4 A champion named Goliath of GATH came out from the Philistine camp now please remember Gods Instruction to Joshua on that town called Gath. God gave Joshua instructions to destroy the entire Anakites but Joshua 11: 22 makes a chilly admission, No Anakites were left in Israelite territory; only in Gaza, Gath and Ashdod did any survive. (Gaza later gave birth to Delilah) When God says clear completely please obey, had Joshua obeyed at the time, Goliath would not have been born and Israel could never have been challenged. Approach your giants with confidence, like David did, he never even wore an armour, he knew that was going to be a disadvantage due to its weight. God Bless You and keep you.
