Pastor’s Corner Last Sunday we celebrated the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles. Only these two Apostles are recognized throughout the universal Church with the highest Liturgical honor – a Solemnity! And since their feast day (June 29) falls on a Sunday it takes precedence over the 13th Sunday of Ordinary time. From the testimony of Sacred Scripture we know that Peter was not a perfect man. He was both bold – in telling Jesus to stop speaking about His future death in Jerusalem; and weak – sinking into the water because of lack of faith and then denying he even knew Jesus (not once, but three times). Paul also had his shortcomings. As a faithful Jew, his first affiliation with Christianity was as its persecutor, aiding and abetting at the death of St. Stephen, the first martyr. He continued hunting-down the followers of Christ until he had his conversion experience; another great feast in our liturgical calendar. Yet Peter and Paul did change. Through the grace of God and their eventual docility to the Holy Spirit they were able to fully commit to discipleship, and their witness directly affect thousands, if not tens- of-thousands of hearts, leading to a surge in converts to Christianity. They served Christ well and were indeed, “poured out like a libation” in giving all to the mission they were invited to. Hopefully, in honoring these saints we can be inspired to imitate their commitment to Christ and to give of ourselves in witness and service; encouraging our sisters and brothers who are experiencing darkness to embrace the light of faith and truth. In our parish, we feed and tend the flock of Christ though the Church’s ministries in which we humbly serve. As a little sign of gratitude to all our volunteers, we – the members of the Pastoral Council – decided to hold a Volunteer Appreciation Lunch this past Sunday. 120 members from the Parish’s ministries attended and enjoyed a fine meal prepared by T.W. Howell’s. It was a great way to spend some time together and to say Thank You! I do thank the members of the Pastoral Council for organizing this affair & Harry Martin who helped set-up and break-down the school cafeteria. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Deacon Mike Guerrieri and those who helped him organize and set up the altars for our Eucharistic Procession last week for the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. We also appreciate Donna Marie Berchtold’s efforts in directing the music ministry for that day and the Einwechter Family and Kathy Garcia for their assistance. It was a beautiful expression by our parishioners who participated (both English and Spanish speaking) of our love and devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. Lastly, I am happy to announce that Bishop Sullivan has appointed Fr. Armando Montoya to minister to the Spanish speaking communities in both our parish and in St. Gianna’s in Northfield. Fr. Armando will begin his assignment on July 1. I do thank Fr. Alvaro Diaz for helping us out over the past several months as the presider for the Spanish Mass. Peace, Fr. Nick
