Pastor’s Pen~ We are in the Easter Season, fifty days, which runs from Easter through the day of Pentecost – June 8. Despite our cultural emphases, the Easter Season is the climax of the Christian year, bookended with Christ’s Resurrection and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Yet, an important event in this time, but often barely observed, is Christ’s ascension to the Father in heaven, marking his dominion over heaven and earth. Then at Pentecost, comes the Holy Spirit, which is none other than his continuing presence. I ask us to consider how these events apply to our individual lives, and as a community of faith – the church: Deliverance, New Life, Lordship of Christ, and Empowerment of the Holy Spirit. How would we describe these aspects of transformation? How is the Christ event evident in us? After the Resurrection, Jesus spent forty days with those first disciples, before He ascended to Heaven. He used this “season” to teach and prepare them for what would come next – the ministry He was placing in their hands. I encourage us to take stock in our season of faith. How have the lessons and events affected our faith, raised questions, encouraged us to seek and serve our Lord? How will we grow in Christ, both individually and as a church?
