Patients is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting Mackenzie has hit another bump in the road. Yesterday they attempted to pull her last picc line out and we were so excited. However, the line was unable to be removed because a blood clot formed in her leg and prevented the line from being pulled past it. During the attempt to pull the line Mackenzies leg turned purple and swelled up, immediately showing a problem. She underwent an ultrasound and xray yesterday to assess the line and the clot. It was decided to give her blood thinners in order to soften the clot and allow the line to pass, hopefully in about 5 days. Sadly, Mackenzie will remain on the blood thinners for a few months and the only way to administer it is in a shot, twice a day. In addition she will need to have her blood drawn twice a week while on the blood thinners. The blood clot is another challenge for Mackenzie which unfortunately requires a whole lot of needles but otherwise should not impede her progress too much. Here she is resting with her leg elevated and heated after a long day. Thank you for keeping Mackenzie in your thoughts and prayers.
