Patiovore Edible Gardens has really grown and matured over the last two years. What started as a veggie garden installation company has turned into an all-around landscaping and plant management company (that specializes in veggies, fruit trees/vines, herbs, and edible flowers). *** EDIT: This ended up being really long! The gist of the post is this: ...But this natural expansion has left me needing a new tagline. I dont know what to use. It was: Patiovore - Beyond Local Edible Gardens Probably should be - Patiovore: Patios so delicious you could (most likely) eat them ???? *** Some of the projects Im working on, etc: Im managing the countertop bouquets at Paulies Restaurant, working with a florist that uses the most interesting/longest lasting/most local materials possible. We had one bouquet that lasted two months - even putting out cute sprouts all over the bouquets branches. Im arranging wedding centerpieces for my good friend Kasie using living plants that they can take and plant at their new home. Therell be a mix of natives and insectary plants that will grow easily with minimal maintenance (and are especially great if she ever wants to grow food or plant fruit trees). Ive built a 3-walled divider with a large gate and tree planter for a mandarin and some vines as the backdrop, all to hide the utility area on the backside of a wine bar. Im installing a LEED landscape on a 15,000sf lot in the Heights. Ive learned about infill, grading, hardscaping, and non-edibles to make a full landscape. Grasses like zoysia that are draught tolerant and ideally low-maintenance, trees that do well in Houston, native plants that support our local brand of microlife and insects. I built succulent planters for Camerata at Paulies because these little plants are so visually intense and they require no maintenance from my friends there. This is also why Im putting small cacti in front of the signs at Boomtown (the Justin - off menu item - is the perfect iced latte, btw). Im building an indoor green wall for the brilliant new Makerspace out of reclaimed wood, reclaimed metal conduit piping, and cigar boxes. Im going to add a few LED lights, mirrors to reflect the light, and am using all low-light plants. My anxiety drops to below-normal levels and creativity jumps just being next to structures like this, and I hope it has the same effect on everyone that visits this awesome new establishment. This isnt the full list, but this has gotten long enough! I love creating beautiful green spaces with an emphasis on using as many repurposed, local materials as possible. I love collaborating with local artists/makers/business owners on all of my projects. I also think healthy greenery does a lot for our well-being - and if done right, you can have greenspaces that just get better over time (and dont need to be redone every season!! Ive considered a plants that could survive an apocalypse blog series, ha). Healthy and well-done greenspaces can also give you edibles that can be more powerful than the most expensive multivitamin. But this natural expansion has left me needing a new tagline. I dont know what to use.
