Patriotism is at the core of any Nations security and growth Today i was confronted by a rather depressing scenarios; the first was by a seemingly honest and desperate group of Somali elders whom i had a long meeting with in my office. The enormity of the enfolding effect of the work of alshabaab operative, sympathizes and cohorts is beginning to be a reality to all of them. They are beginning to realize that the economy of Wajir as a town and as a county is intertwine and is being supported by the over two thousand non-local population. They are beginning to realize that the alshabaab grand plan is to isolate the local population from the non-locals by instilling fear on the non-locals so that they can leave the town and at the same time on the Kenyan Somalis so has to hold them at ransom. The second case scenario confronted me when together with the OC Wajir army camp and the members of the CISC tried to persuade the now more than eight hundred persons camping at the army camp to try and go back to their normal lives given that we are doing everything to deal with the security threat and have managed to arrest a number of suspects and have also put in place an elaborate security measures to ensure their safety. My effort in trying to make them realize that the Mandera situation was different case seem to have bared little fruits. Nothing can be disheartening like to see people you know in such a situation ! it is simply depressing. Though a majority of this people would naturally be heading for the Christmas festive season holiday, it is the Mandera incidence rather than the actual security situation in Wajir town which has catalyzed the exodus. I have no doubt the most of them will spend the Christmas holiday as they get briefs on the security situation in the town; if it shows sign of improvement, majority of them will troop back to Wajir come January. We are dealing with a weak and amorphous enemy but a desperate one at that, so it is a dangerous enemy !, It thrives mainly under an environment of fear and despondency. It finds fertile ground in an environment in which corruption is the order of the day; it thrives due to the absence of patriotism and love of ones country !.Ethiopia can not experience such a problem because the Ethiopians are patriotic lot and there is no taking of bribes. Uzembe kwa kazi and taking of bribes is not only one of our great undoing it is one of the greatest causes of insecurity !. If the non-Somalis leave, then the former North Eastern may not be the same again. Lucky enough, those who have been in this region are very aware of the great potentials and opportunities that is available here, so they will come back when the security situation improves. May GOD protect his people and BLESS KENYA ! .
