Pats Weekly Diary - April 28, 2014 We played a wedding on Friday night at Chateau Estates Country Club. It was a splendid affair. Is it my imagination… it seems we sure are playing in Kenner a lot lately. Rivertown Italian Fest… Laketown Crawfish Fest… weddings at Chateau. We’ll be at the Treasure Chest on Thursday. And then there’s the Rivertown Music in the Park Concert coming soon… Kenner, America’s City. Saturday night we played a wedding at the Southern Yacht Club. Now you might recall, as I do, during my Katrina evacuation to Marksville, La. (I have a cousin that put up with me and my family for a few days) watching on TV as the S.Y.C. burned. I’ve only been out there maybe twice since then. Of course as soon as I could get in there I had to go check out the heart breaking destruction at West End. And maybe once since then I drove out there just to see what I could see. Going out there on Saturday night just reminds me of what a great area that was for such a long time. We played out there starting in the early 80’s at the Palace Saloon which later became the Paddlewheel and much later was Jaegers… played ‘em all. We had a regular Sunday and Wednesday night gig at the Bounty for a long time. The Bounty of course became the Dock… played ‘em both. Buzzy says we played Augies once or twice… I don’t remember that. I do recall playing at the Bounty the night Augies burned down though. We could feel the heat on our backs. Buzzy also says there was another club back there (he seems to remember that it was called Chimes) that we also played once or twice. I don’t remember that either. But that West End Park area was just a really popular area back then. You couldn’t get into the parking lot for all the cars. Someone should do something with it… open a place for people to dock their boats on a Sunday afternoon. And that’s not to mention Amberjacks or Barts on the Lakefront… played ‘em both. One summer we played every Sunday evening on Bart’s back deck… sweating our asses off. So this was our first time back at the Southern Yacht Club. It’s beautiful. And if my memory is correct (and at least according to Buzzy it ain’t) it looks very much like it did before. Somehow they were able to salvage a whole lot of the pictures and trophies and souvenirs in the display cases. The view of the lakefront from there is fabulous. Last week the riverfront… this week the lake… New Orleans!!! And the reception went great. Dancing right from the start. Sunday evening we closed out the fair at Our Lady of Divine Providence. We’ve been doing this for years and years. It was just a beautiful evening. The grounds were just packed with people. Thank you very much. And that’s it… April. We’re off now and will be back in ‘Kenner Brah’ on Thursday the 1st of May (But you and I, our love will never die But guess well cry come first of May)… (Bee Gees… f***ing love that song) at the Treasure Chest inside the Caribbean Showroom. It’s been a while. We hope to see you there.
