Pats Weekly Diary - January 5, 2015 Welcome to 2015!!! We made it through the holiday season. We hope yours was safe and great. The Riverview Room in the Jax Brewery is absolutely the best place in New Orleans to celebrate the New Year. Weve been playing there on New Years Eve night for about 12… maybe 15 years now and it just keeps getting better and better. It is by far the ideal place to see the ball (actually the fleur de lis) drop and see the fire works on the river. The atmosphere inside is fantastic the food is great and the staff is second to none. (And the band… ehh…) We certainly look forward to playing there again next New Years eve. We returned to Rock n Bowl on Friday night. There was just a fantastic huge crowd of people out. By the end of the night John Blancher was on stage with us… its been a while… shirt off, dancing, singing… Secret Agent Man. Theres goes a split. There goes a mic stand. A little trouble getting back up. Back into the song… on the wrong side of the beat… Ahh you gotta love Rock n Bowl. Saturday we had two gigs. We played a fantastic wedding at the Federal Ballroom in the Security Center Building on Carondelet St. We played there from 4:45 to 8:00. We were asked a head of time if we could play until 9. The reception is actually scheduled til 9 but sorry, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective) we have another gig to get to. So we get out of the Federal Ballroom by 8:25. This is not an easy move to begin with and time is of the essence here. Were headed around the corner to the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton New Orleans Riverside where we had a 9 oclock start for the Krewe of Caesar Mardi Gras Ball. Are you joking me? Mardi Gras? Already? Yes!!! We made it with time to spare… of course. We played from 9 to 10:30. Groovy 7 played from 10:30 to 12:45. Thats right a two hour and fifteen minute break. Fortunately there was a room we could go relax in. Some drinks and sandwiches. And some road cases I could lay on to take a snooze. We came back on at 12:45 and played until 2. Needless to say we were quite exhausted. And thats how we opened 2015. Well be at Boomtown on Friday and we hope to see you there.
