Pats Weekly Diary - May 5, 2014 We were back in Kenner on Thursday night playing for the first time in a long time in the Caribbean Showroom at the Treasure Chest Casino. Over the years our relationship with the Treasure Chest has been a bit strange. They would hire us for outside events but not inside. Then vice-versa. Then not at all. Then only occasionally. Then they gave us a regular Thursday night gig for a while. Then not at all. Well we were back on Thursday night playing to a decent crowd of friends. Personally I like the Treasure Chest if for no other reason - we tend to play more “oldies” there and I like that. We’ll see how it goes from here. Friday was the Thibodaux Firemans Fair. This is a fair we’ve played off and on for a long long time. Strangely it usually rains but not this time. You could not ask for a more perfect evening to be playing outdoors. It was actually almost cool. Great Thibodaux friends…great food… brownies. Thank you very much. Saturday was a wedding in Ponchatoula at Chesterton Square. We had to leave early as the ceremony was being held at the same place so we had to be set up before hand. So we left at 4:30. We were there and setup by 5:45. The ceremony was for 6:30. We play from 7 to 10. All of this (the traveling, sitting and waiting) just at the same time as Springsteen was on stage at Jazz Fest. Shit!!! Great wedding though. Sunday was Little Red Church Fair at St. Charles Borromeo in Destrehan. This is another event we’re thrilled to be involved in every year. It was a beautiful evening. We played there from 5:30 to 8:30. Just at the same time David’s favorite artist, Chick Corea, was on stage at the Jazz Fest. And the same time John Fogerty (with whom Robert was invited to play percussion) was on stage at Jazz Fest… Shit & Shit!!!) But we are quite used to this scheduling conflict every year. April & May are always a great busy time for the Topcats and we sincerely appreciate having the opportunity to work. Certainly a working man like Bruce Springsteen understands why I can’t make it to his gigs. And… he was wondering, I’m sure… right in the middle of Thunder Road… where the f*** is Pat??? I’m in Ponchatoula, Bruce… working. Hope to see you next time. We’ll see you guys on Saturday at Rock n Bowl.
