Paul Barker on Sharp Talk LAND AND LAND GRABBING AROUND THE NCD: Could we do an urgent and public stocktake of whos been securing all the land around NCD, and how? With several large bulldozers working today on clearing the large area on the right just before the Cemetery, and all the land and hills being churned up from there back to the airport (and in other directions down the Magi highway etc), whos secured all these blocks, how many are on existing State land, and how many on Customary land, and how many were acquired through correct processes, and have any of them been acquired or retained by superannuation funds or housing associations for low-medium cost accomodation for Papua New Guineans...or have they all been grabbed by local power brokers (including some politicians) and overseas logging companies and other such interests, often/usually using the back door? There should not only be a stocktake, but some moratorium in place until proper process is applied, and prosecution of any Lands Officials and land acquirers whove just grabbed or circumvented any proper process.... The same of course is occurring within the city, in Gerehu, Paga Hill, and on city parkland and behind the beach..
