Paul Brooks posted in Southeast Iowa Storm Chasers Paul Brooks Paul Brooks 1:29am Mar 6 Looking through long range model data, although somewhat early, it appears as if we will have our first decent chance at severe weather within the month. Models are currently in some agreement as to possible decent troughing and inverted jet stream somewhere between the 19th and 23rd of this month. Will this mean severe weather up to Central Iowa? Probably not, unless we can melt off all of the snowfall and thaw the permafrost. There will be a decent chance that we will see much higher temps(60-70) and some possible windy storms with lightning. This will in turn set us up favorably for the next Low that moves along the trough, which is looking to be sometime between the 30th of March and the 4th of April. If temps and dewpoints are anywhere near what models are showing, we should sea decent swath of Tornadic activity, possibly stretching from Colorado back up into W. Iowa and from points there and SE. Just something to possibly look forward to. Remember, this far out, things could change drastically, but I have monitored the trends over the past two weeks, and this is what I am seeing.
