Paul, I wouldnt give Courier snowball odds. The story is pretty good. The connection to the theme is weak. There is numerous tech which is contradictory and problematic. The artist seems solid. The colors are poor. The visual continuity is absolute shit and is likely the nail in the coffin. Some examples: Panel 1: The Biker has his arms wrapped and is wearing gloves. Panel 2: The wrapping and gloves are gone. Panel 2: His tires are smooth. Panel 3: His tires have deep treads. Page 1 his jackets brown and helmets white but by Page 2 theyre both blue. The flyboys necklace appears and disappears.. as do his goggles... his jacket flips back and forth between being zipped up and unzipped mid-sequence. Crispness, line quality, etc vary widely throughout the comic The technology and loose connection of the theme didnt leave you much margin for error and despite the artist having some beautiful drawings as a whole its fairly inconsistent. Heck, there backgrounds go from heavily detailed drawing to photos poorly rendered with Photoshop filters. Theres a lot of good here which makes dropping the ball on theme, consistency, and continuity disappointing. Were not at the selections point yet... but if this is the final I cant imagine it making the cut.
