Paul speaks to a violent mob in Jerusalem--- Brothers and fathers! Listen to me as I make my defense before you now! When they heard him speaking to them in Hebrew [or in Aramaic], they settled down more; so he continued. I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city [Jerusalem] and trained at the feet of Gamliel in every detail of the Torah of our forefathers [the law of our ancestors]. I was a zealot for God, as all of you are today. I persecuted to death the followers of this Way, arresting both men and women and throwing them in prison. The high priest and the whole council of Jewish leaders can tell you this is true. They gave me letters to the Jewish brothers in Damascus. So I was going there to arrest these people and bring them back to Jerusalem to be punished. During that journey, about noon, as I approached Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven encircled me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, Shaul! Shaul [Saul, Saul]! Why do you keep persecuting me? I answered, Sir, who are you? I am Yeshua from Natzeret [Jesus of Nazareth], he said to me, and you are persecuting me! Those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they didnt understand the voice of him who spoke to me. Then I asked, What do you want me to do, Lord? The Lord told me, Get up! Go into the city of Damascus, and youll be told everything Ive arranged for you to do. And because I was unable to see because of the glory of that light, those who were with me took me by the hand, and so I came to Damascus... Acts 22:1-11
