Pay close attention to yourself and to your doctrine; persevere in - TopicsExpress

Pay close attention to yourself and to your doctrine; persevere in these things; for as you do this, you will insure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you. (1 Timothy 4:16) In our time, the notion that everything is fine, as long as were all following Jesus has become the normative perspective by many that affirm the name Christian. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Doctrine is what divides us from those that affirm a false gospel and follow a different Jesus. Would anyone argue that Jehovahs Witnesses are truly Christian? They follow Jesus. According to the modern Christian logic, thats all it takes for someone to be a Christian. What about Mormons? They love Jesus, too. Even Muslims affirm that Christ will have a second coming in which he will destroy the al-Masīh ad-Dajjāl (the Antichrist False messiah) and his followers. Does that mean theyre our brothers and sisters in Christ? Absolutely not. No matter their zeal and love for Jesus, they affirm a different gospel, and follow a different Jesus. Doctrine saves, or doctrine damns, period. As Paul affirms in the passage in to young Timothy -- Pay attention to yourself and your doctrine, persevere in these things, for if you do this, you will insure salvation for yourself and for those that hear you. As Christians, we too must pay attention to ourselves and the doctrines were affirming and teaching. Preach the WORD; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.
