Paying dues isnt about tallying up what youve been through against what others have , its about what you did with what you went through, not about the hand life dealt you but how you played it. For me the easiest way to see someone is faking their struggle (because they misunderstand the point is about the experience that is required for both wisdom and knowledge) is when they are cruel to other people. When youve been to hell and back you dont try to throw others down there, thats something you do when you didnt have the strength to claw your way back to solid ground or never fell at all. People who have been through it show compassion and support to those going through it because….empathy. You remember and recognize what it was like to be in hell and you remember and recognize what it was like to be in blissful ignorance before that. Does that mean you always have patience for it? No. But you dont tear people down over it.
