Peace Corps Education Volunteers in Armenia recently celebrated a Community Day to gather Americans and Armenians in a small village community to share and explore cultural values and perspectives through a full day of activity. To begin the festivities, students met the U.S. Ambassador John Heffern at the gate of the school in national Armenian dresses with a traditional salt bread spread. The first half of the day displayed several American cultural values, including our passion for animals and exercise. Several Peace Corps Volunteers presented an interesting and interactive Animal Welfare lesson inside the school, while others played soccer outside with the students. Armenian culture and hospitality revealed itself through a generous feast held inside the school, and all throughout the second half of the day as well. In the village theater, students performed two plays (one in English, one in Armenian), followed by a very diverse talent show. It was a wonderful opportunity for two very different cultures and many different networks of people to come together, learn a lot, and have some fun!
