Peace Officers Memorial Day is held annually in the United States - TopicsExpress

Peace Officers Memorial Day is held annually in the United States on May 15th in honor of federal, state and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. Many people in the United States will pay tribute to officers who lost their lives or were injured in their jobs. According to Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), about 140-160 officers are killed in the line of duty each year and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. The term Peace Officer got me wondering, who are these people? A quick visit to Wikipedia revealed the following definition: A peace officer or law enforcement officer in North America is any public-sector employee or agent whose duties primarily involve the enforcement of laws. The phrase can include everyone from police officers, corrections officers to probation and parole officers. Then I wondered, are they really different from the rest of us? Arent we all called to be lawful citizens? In our evolution as a society, have we abdicated our responsibility to obey laws? And do we behave the same way with Gods law (aka Commandment) to love one another? There is no enforcer for that law other than the person you see when you look in the mirror. Why not try enforcing the one law that will change the world for good. The reward youll receive when you take on that job is - LOVE. James McKim
