Peace be unto u We will share d story behind d hymn Must I Go, and Empty-handed ( Ngo ha ku ni owo ofo) Charles Carroll Luther was a journalist & a Baptist minister in. Though not a prolific composer, he authored dis hymn in 1877 when he heard Rev. A.G. Upham relate d story of a young man who was about to die.Dis young man had been a Christian for only one month. Though thankful to d Lord for granting him salvation during his final hour, he was nevertheless grieved that hed had no opportunity to serve the Lord nor to share Him with others. He explained, “I am not afraid to die; Jesus saves me now. But must I go empty handed?” Upon hearing this account, Luther wrote the following hymn. “Must I go, and empty handed,” Thus my dear Redeemer meet? Not one day of service give Him, Lay no trophy at His feet? Chorus: “Must I go, and empty handed?” Must I meet my Savior so? Not one soul with which to greet Him, Must I empty handed go? Dis man had just a month experience of God,yet he felt so guilty to die empty handed without service and winning souls to God.What are u doing for God? Has everything God gave u,health,long life,wealth,talents,skills,etc prompted sincere service and soul winning to God? WILL U DIE EMPTY HANDED? God will empower u with His grace and power to serve Him in truth and to witness Him to odas in Jesus name.
