Peace in Troubled Times… Luke 24:36-38 (NKJV) 36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, Peace to you. 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? Our lives seem to be filled with storms. Times when we can’t seem to find answers to things that trouble us. Jesus is the only answer in times in like this in our lives. Jesus had just been crucified on the cross after being beaten. All the while the disciples were under the impression that Christ would be with them forever even though he told them he wasn’t. In their minds they weren’t really sure what they were going to do now. In our lives there are times when we go thru trials and we aren’t really sure why. The feeling that most all of feel is fear. God why am I going thru this – I am scared. Fear because we don’t know what’s going to happen or why. Most of us have that fear, because we’ve never been thru it. Christ is there in our mist just as here in verse 36 – in our times of fear and doubt he is there. Christ tells us peace to you…in times like this the only thing that gives us peace is Christ. Have you ever wondered why we must as Christians go thru trials? Why do we have to go thru them? What is the purpose? Wouldn’t it be nice if we never had bad things happen to us in our lives? Things that would make us wonder or doubt. If you’ll notice in verse 38 it tells us why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? Life as a whole can and will trouble anyone if you’ve lived here very long. Even in Jesus’ ministry here on Earth he found himself troubled at the garden, but the thing he didn’t do was have doubt in his heart. As things happen to us in our lives – when we become troubled we must not lose our faith – we must not have doubt. Most of us need to understand things happen for a reason even if we don’t know why. This must happen for that to take place. If Jesus would have never left we wouldn’t have gotten the Holy Spirit. If our house wouldn’t have burnt – we’d never gotten a nicer one. If our spouse hadn’t life we’d never met this Godly one. If someone wouldn’t have stolen our money –we’d never witnessed God at work in someone to replace it. I know it’s hard to find peace with something we’re going thru, but don’t lose faith and have doubt. Christ is with you – when you hurt so does he. We sometimes become so wrapped up in this world that it’s about us, but it’s not. This world is bigger than us and what we are in it. That might make some feel small and insignificant, but you are part of the plan that makes this all work. We are the hands and feet of the Lord here on the earth. It’s in times of trouble that we need to show people what God’s about. If you’re feeling down today and beat up as most of us do at times – remember that Christ is there. You only need to stop and feel him and his presents. In those times God is doing a mighty work in you – you just have to wait for it to be completed. The waiting is the hardest part. Pastor Jerry
