Peace in a Troubled World John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 The Fourth and central core value and Spiritual Virtue of Beloved Community is PEACE. In todays word the Holy SPirit will help me teach the power and assurance of this gift of grace. The Spiritual Gifts are those aspects of Gods nature and personality that we are given by the Holy Spirit when we open our mind and soul to the truth of Jesus Christ. Spiritual Virtues are those powerful dispositions and notions that reproduce themselves within us and all around us. They are those ways of being and understanding things, those habits that are wholly good: privately and publicly. Spiritual gifts and virtues are habits of soul that we cannot have unless we deeply desire them for everyone. Peace is the central one for us because we live in such a strife-divided, violent and anxious world. Peace is the very Presence of God (The Love, The Word, The Spirit). It is a joy and a duty. Like every other Spiritual gift it can only be experienced through sharing it. It is central and pivotal because it is the fulcrum of what we call Faith. When we experience and share it we share in the work of love, in the gospel, we are the substance of the spirit of God. We are agents of Joy, Grace and Hope: the easy yoke of Jesuss Love and ministry. As with every Spiritual virtue, there is an irony at the heart of it that makes it challenging to live out--as glorious and rewarding as they may be. Peace requires that we face the discord, the brokenness, the injustice, the fear the Shadow of Death that obscures the ever-present Love of God. Those who would share peace seek not comfort but the difficulties that will make them appear as the problem in a world dominated by strife and injustice. Your mission…should you accept it…is to be the peace in places and in ways that will test and try your soul. The promise of Jesus is that you will have his company through it all and the promise of resurrection: blessed assurance. Come be loved by the promise of the Peace of God
