Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict HABITAT LOSS one of the major threats faced by our wildlife especially elephants, Asian elephants follow strict migration routes. The oldest elephant(matriarch) of the herd is responsible for remembering the migration route of its herd, which she would have learnt from her ancestors, Elephant migration generally takes place between the wet and dry seasons and problems rise when the migratory routes of the elephant herds are disturbed by crop farms, plantations, towns, villages, dams etc. This is one of the main reason which forces elephants into the new human territory causing conflict between man and elephants, now the habitats of these elephants are small fragments of forest lands, with the human population exploding in India and other parts of Asia, the Asiatic Elephant faces a huge threat of extinction. Today some aprrox of 25000 elephants are left in India, distributed in central & southern part of western ghats, north-east India, northern India And some parts of Peninsular India, Conserving their Habitat and new migratory corridors would play a good part in Conservation of the Indian Elephant...!!
