“Peace is not the absence of war but the presence of justice” By John Minto Spokesperson for Global Peace and Justice Auckland This headline sums up what peace means to me. It’s been said in many different ways at many different times by many different people. It says that peace isn’t an airy-fairy notion based on “let’s all be nice to each other” or a hippy-ish “make love not war” but that we can’t talk about peace, and can’t possibly expect it to materialise, unless we first work for justice. The simple truth is that there will never be peace without justice. In fact we need not worry about peace. If we achieve justice then peace will follow naturally as night follows day. I have a Palestinian Human Rights T- shirt which sums it up like this: “Justice is the seed – peace is the flower”. Indeed. morphmagazine.co.nz/yomo/234-peace-is-not-the-absence-of-war-but-the-presence-of-justice.html
