Peak solar harvest is best explained as a bell curve, with peak capacity production between the hours of 9:30 am and 2:30 PM. ( in WA @ 4.8hrs average pa) There is harvest on either side of shoulder those times, but it will depend greatly on the pitch of the panels ( I recall 18 deg is optimum for Perth). One major issue that panels have is their efficiency drops by a certain percentage over every degree above 25c - as you could imagine it gets pretty hot on a roof during summer. ( and perhaps that is the source of the south vs west results from the study) From my experience its usually best to point your panels north east if your electricity is mostly used in the morning (best for the elderly) north west if your a family that mostly uses in the arvo and north if your just interested in a feed in tarriff.
