Peculiar Life of Oliver Gwynne: Play Time There are many who tut and roll their eyes at the obsession of phone users everywhere. Any bus, train or street can be seen with these zombie like creatures checking their messages at an alarming rate, consumed by their ow little virtual life. The critics of this will say these people are addicted, that they have a fear of missing out , and isnt it worrying that kids need to be entertained 24/7. I myself am probably one of the most patient people youll meet. In video production the process to make a video into a file involves rendering, exporting and uploading and I reckon this takes about a third of my life, so its safe to say Im a patient guy. However, when I think of my childhood, I also needed regular entertainment in the form of toys. Its funny but as you get older you sort of forget how important toys were. You had toys to play with at the weekend at home. BUT what if youre having a bath?! You cant just go 15 whole minutes without something to do, obviously youll need bath toys to take in with you. Going on a trip? Are you insane?! A two hour car journey with only Radio 4 and scenery to entertain me? No, no no, we must have a range of toys for the car too. Not forgetting that selected family members who are visited often will be expected to house their own collection of toys for my benefit. I guess the difference is that my toys werent electronic, and I would normally come up with my own storyline and such. All of which involved all of the bad guys grouping together somehow (even if they were dead theyd find convenient time portals) and then all of the heroes grouping together, and them having a big fight to see who would win. It was remarkable how the x-men and star wars, and spiderman all had pretty much exactly the same thing happen to them day in and day out. I would say that there has never been a greater degree of education in play things, and perhaps mobile phones as such arent encouraging kids to use their imagination, but with the amount of toys for every occasion I had, I think anything that keeps the kids quiet will make parents happy.
