Peggy Robertson of United Opt Out, the national group organizing to help parents understand and implement their own opt out/test refusals. She says, Its now or never folks! Stopping the testing will stop the machine. We either stop the machine now or we loose everything and that includes our children. Peggy Robertson Its insane watching the privatization of public education occur using our tax dollars and all of us to usher it forward. We pay for our own demise. Truly. I just cant quit shaking my head as I watch it. If we all revolted it would end. And I can assure you, if we dont revolt - they will win. Everyone is working right now to make sure we dont halt the progress of privatization - they (those in power) are offering all sorts of pathetic compromises. Are we going to stand for it? If you funnel your energy anywhere this year - funnel it at the grassroots level via opt out/refusal. If you are a parent or student - refuse the tests. If you are a teacher who is in a position to refuse administering the tests - do so now - there is momentum here and it is building. More parents will follow as teachers refuse to administer. Stay true to demanding everything our children deserve. If we compromise - we take a slow death. If we stay true to our demands we can halt the destruction of our democracy and our public schools. We at UOO, demand an equitably funded, democratically based, anti-racist, desegregated public school system for all Americans that prepares students to exercise compassionate and critical decision making with civic virtue.
