Pelosi’s underwhelming understatement was equally matched by New York Representative Steve Israel, chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “I won’t sugarcoat it,” said Israel, “we always knew tonight would be a challenging night, and it was for Democrats at every level.” Nancy Pelosi, along with her fellow Democrats, have been judged by the American voters and found guilty. Many still hold a grudge over the way Pelosi shoved Obamacare through the House, without letting anyone read it first. Pelosi and her party are also paying the price for their constant acrimonious rhetoric and partisanship, and their role in the interminable gridlock that has plagued Washington, D.C. for years. Perhaps, as Democrats lick their wounds and regroup over the next two years, they will wisely reconsider who they choose as their leadership. Hopefully, they will decide to move in a more moderate direction, back towards the center, and away from their steady slide to the progressive left of late.
