Penelope is a sweet 2-year-old Chihuahua who loves to play! She came to us in September, surrendered because she was very ill. Her family had noticed Penelope stopped eating, and, meaning well, they began to force-feed her. Unfortunately, this can cause aspiration and choking, and Penelope developed a terrible case of pneumonia. Our Chief Veterinary Officer says this was one of the worst cases shes ever seen; Penelopes entire right lung was full of fluid, and she required six weeks of hospitalization. Ultimately, her treatment and many series of X-Rays cost several thousand dollars. Our Clinic Team and Foster volunteers provided excellent care, but we hope to encourage pet owners to seek veterinary care immediately if their pet develops any illness. Penelopes small symptoms were turned into something much more severe that could have been much more easily treated earlier. Penelope has recovered, although she may always have a small cough, and she is about to go to her new home!
