Penhill War Memorial When the Royal British Legion Club closed - TopicsExpress

Penhill War Memorial When the Royal British Legion Club closed and the future of the land it occupies became uncertain, considerable concerns were expressed about the future of the War Memorial. St Peter’s Church was pleased to step in to offer help and a secure home for this on its land. Easier said than done! To begin with the church had to obtain a ‘Faculty’ i.e. special permission from the Chancellor of the Diocese to allow work to proceed. Planning permission was also needed from Swindon Borough Council and residents Tim and Carole O’Sullivan of Penhill RBL put in a tremendous amount of work to secure this. Details still needed to be clarified by the RBL solicitors in London but ... finally all the necessary paperwork has now been completed! As I write this, we are waiting for the nominated contractor to begin work and I sincerely hope that, by the time you read this, the War Memorial will be situated in its new home, where we hope it will be cherished for the years to come. There will be a service of re-dedication for the Memorial to which all will be welcomed. However, we obviously aren’t able to make arrangements until all the work is completed. So, watch this space! In the meantime we have been delighted to welcome the Penhill Branch of the Royal British Legion to their new home in St Peter’s Hall and we look forward to a long and happy association with them. I’m sure that they won’t mind me saying this but …new members of RBL are always welcome to join them! Greta Davies PCC Secretary – St Peter’s Church
