PennDOT has announced plans to close Route 743 near ZooAmerica for two days -- Sept. 22 and 23 -- to make repairs to the bridge over Spring Creek. Here is the PennDOT announcement … PennDOT maintenance crews will close Route 743 during the day for two days where it crosses the bridge that carries Route 743 over Spring Creek in Derry Township, Dauphin County. The closure is necessary so that the crews can remove the old blacktop surface on the bridge that is in very poor condition and repave it with new asphalt before the onset of the winter season. The bridge is located between Hersheypark Drive and Route 422, on the east side of Hershey Park, just north of the entrance to Zoo America. Motorists are advised that this bridge on Route 743 will be closed from 7 a.m. until about 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, September 22 and 23. Traffic will have access to destinations up to the vicinity of the bridge, but thru traffic will be detoured around the closure by way of Hershey Park Drive, Route 39 and Route 422. Motorists are asked to be alert to this daytime bridge closure, and to allow additional time in their travel plans in order to avoid delays.
