Pension Scam: Court freezes Attang, Kigo’s assets Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has received an interim order to take possession of the assets and properties of Atiku Abubakar Kigo and Mrs. Uzoma Cyril Attang,pending the determination of the case of N32.8bn Police pension scam instituted by the commission against the two. Justice Sunday Aladetoyinbo granted the order following an application against the duo, who are the second and sixth accused persons, respectively, in the Police pension scam. The alleged offence is punishable under Sections 97, 115 (ii), 119, 309 and 315 of the Penal Code Act Cap. 532 Laws of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria 2007. A statement by the EFCC Acting Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said, “The order given July 30, 2013, pursuant to Section 29 (a) and (b) of the EFCC Establishment Act 2004, also covers the freezing of the accounts of the suspects, pending the hearing and final determination of the corruption case filed against them. Attang was an assistant director at the Police Pension Office between 2005 and 2008, while Kigo was a director before being made a permanent secretary. They were first arraigned on March 29, 2012, on a 16-count criminal charge bordering on conspiracy and criminal breach of trust before Justice Mohammed Talba of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja, alongside others. The other accused persons in the trial are Esai Dangabar, Ahmed Inuwa Wada, Mrs. Veronica Ulonma Onyegbula, Sani Habila Zira, and Mr. Christian Madubuike. EFCC said 46 of the attached properties, situated mostly in Lagos and Abuja, belonged to Attang while Kigo, whose properties had earlier been attached, had another of his plot of land at Gudu District (attached).
