People always say never to discuss Politics or Religion. As a television host on Vision Pastoral, Leonila Olivares Salazar does both and even in Spanish. This episode Leonila interviews Robert Gonzalez, Co-Founder of the Clear Lake Tea Party, one of Texas first and most influential Tea Party organizations. The interview was intentionally done in Spanish as part Wake Up Texas on-going outreach and education efforts. Leonilas rationale for this unique interview is everyday liberals are on our televisions, on the radio, in music scene and in the newspapers. The same liberals are doing it in the Hispanic Community also as if speaking for the whole American Hispanic community. These liberals tell the world how American Hispanics think and they tell American Hispanics how to act, how to vote, and what they should be doing. Understand this, Hispanics are not all the same, just look at the diverse nationalities, skin colors, dialects, traditions and cultures. So why would there be only one liberal side to the political story dominating the Hispanic media? Conservative groups like the Tea Party movement are often portrayed and radicals; yes, even in the Hispanic Media. In reality Tea Party supporters share the same fundamental values most all Americans, no matter their heritage: Free Enterprise, Limited Government, Individual Freedom, Preservation of the Traditional Family, Importance of God in Daily Life, Strong Work Ethic, Educational Opportunity for All, Sanctity of Human Life, Equal Opportunity for all Citizens, Strong Nation Defense, Private Sector Responsibility to Care for the Poor, Personal Responsibility, Limited Taxation and Regulatory Burden. A large segment of the American Hispanic community has historically shared conservative Republican values, even though today many of them vote Democrat. In fact, a close look at US history demonstrates that Hispanics have traditionally been closer to conservative Republican Party values than to those of the Democrat Party. Then why do we not see more Hispanics Republicans elected or even voting? Conservative pundits say the GOP needs to establish a clear agenda to reach and mobilize these millions of American Hispanics who are not getting the conservative Republican message. Their presence in the party and their vote is critical. Here in Texas it is still today a swing vote up that is up for grabs. Democrats should not assume that American Hispanics are entirely part of their base. Republican leaders should also understand the need to act quickly. Understanding the Hispanic Community is one thing; engaging and winning over Hispanics is another. Why wait for someone else to decide what to do, when you know what is the right thing to do? Leonila is one voice who will help deliver the message. youtu.be/8YWPHxLGjB0
