People are more likely to vote for the candidate based on the letter -- (R) or (D) -- behind his or her name rather than where s/he stands on the issues. That validates their choice of political party. Republicans are more likely to vote than Democrats in an off-year election. Older, white, wealthier registered voters are more likely to vote than younger, ethnic and less wealthy voters. Democrats arent engaged this year. All of this according to political pundits. Which means that a minority of voters could determine the outcome of the make-up of the House and Senate due to voter apathy. Everyone should be considering -- given the political dysfunction of the last three years between the Republicans and Democrats -- what would happen if the Republicans gain control of both the House and Senate. The GOP claims there would be no logjams and legislation would move forward. Absent a majority of moderates in the Congress, everyone -- Republican or Democrat -- should consider what that legislation should be. And that impact that might have on Supreme Court appointments perhaps for President Obama, but assuredly for the next president. The court is 5-4 conservative today. What will it look like in 2-4 years with justices appointed for life?
