People are so friendly here in Montreal. So many times, somebody - TopicsExpress

People are so friendly here in Montreal. So many times, somebody has started making small talk with me in French. I do the best I can, and sometimes succeed, sometimes ask people to speak more slowly. Im having fun practicing another language! Learning the common expressions offers the opportunity for more practice: Au Revoir (goodbye), Bonjour (hello), Bon jour nee (Happy new day, I think; I used to think they were saying Have a good journey!), Bon Soir (good evening). I like that the French have manners. As Dr Laurence Peter, author of the Peter Principle, wrote, Cheerfulness is a social lubricant. This is a city of 1.2 million with numerous cultures and immigrants. The city celebrates the various cultures via festivals so people feel welcome.
